The immense contribution of David Nield to the community of All Saints church, and to the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, cannot be overstated. His twenty seven years’ service as Organist and Director of Music of the church brought new standards of music-making, including live BBC broadcasts of services on Christmas Day and Good Friday, inspiring generations of choristers and congregation members. He left a lasting legacy with the installation of the Frobenius organ in 1988, itself the subject of an hour-long BBC TV documentary. David held this position at All Saints alongside his ‘day job’ as Director of Music of Tiffin School. From 1965 to 2002, he dedicated his working life to the musical education of thousands of pupils: it is no exaggeration that he transformed lives.
